Epiphany from January 4th to January 6th
Epiphany means "appearance" celebrated the second Sunday after Christmas; it is the introduction of the child Jesus to the Three Wise Men.
The tradition, typically French, wants that this day we choose kings by tasting the delicious king's cake (Twelfth-night pancake).
The pancake was divided into as many parts as they were dinner guests, plus one.
This additional portion was called the "God's slice" or "the virgin's slice" and was kept for the first poor who would present themselves and who was appointed by youngest child of the family.
The tradition became a home ritual, where we get together to cut this famous King's cake. The one who will find the charm will be crowned King or Queen.
